About the role
It is the Pavement Engineer’s responsibility to act as an internal subject matter expert on asphaltic and granular materials commonly used in the construction of transport infrastructure. They will also act as an internal advisor on related geotechnical matters.
The post holder input into the construction of new infrastructure for schemes delivered by the County Council, it’s partners and private developers. It is the post holder’s responsibility to ensure ongoing liability and financial burdens in respect to highway maintenance and minimal. They must also ensure the long-term integrity of infrastructure such that future network disruptions are minimised and safety risks avoided.
In addition to the design of new infrastructure, the Pavement Engineer will support highway maintenance functions, both in relation to reactive repairs and capital improvements of the network, ensuring that the Council’s financial investment remains effective for years to come, thus reducing the quantum of future defects and ensuring good value for money is achieved.

About you
Applicant’s are expected to have experience within the highway construction sector with comprehensive knowledge of their subject matters. They must have the ability and willingness to seek out new information, investigate problems and recommend solutions; they must be a good problem solver.
A flexibility work ethos is needed to manage a diverse workload. The post holder must be able to balance multiple competing priorities and triage demand accordingly.
Strong communication and collaboration skills are required as the Pavement Engineer will need to work with a varied list of stakeholders.
