Location: Birmingham (with travel across the CrossCountry network)
Salary: Up to £61,000

To support this exciting growth, we’re looking for a Project Manager to join our Programme Directorate to work on many major rail specific projects.
What You’ll Be Doing
Drive the delivery of key projects in alignment with Department for Transport (DfT) obligations and strategic business priorities.

Lead cross-functional teams to ensure successful outcomes across scope, schedule, and cost baselines.

Plan, track and report project progress using robust governance and PMO frameworks.

Engage with a diverse range of stakeholders — from internal teams to unions — to foster alignment and collaboration.

Proactively manage project risks, dependencies, and change control.

Champion a culture of continuous improvement by capturing lessons learned and mentoring less experienced colleagues.

Act as a Project Management Centre of Excellence within the organisation.
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
-
Degree-level education or equivalent experience.

Demonstrable experience in end-to-end project delivery using formal governance frameworks (e.g. PRINCE2, APM).

Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Ability to work across a matrix structure and drive outcomes.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and MS Project.
Desirable:

Knowledge of UK rail operations or transport sector experience.

A passion for shaping large-scale change in a customer-focused environment.
