Job Title: Pollution Prevention Analyst

Circa £33,000 depending on skills and experience

Permanent, Full Time, 37 hours a week  

Location: Regional Based, home working with occasional travel

What will you be doing?

The Pollution Prevention Analyst is pivotal in ensuring the accuracy of our pollution data sets. You’ll explore information collected about pollution incidents such as photographs, samples and telemetry to support the capture and validation of core datasets. Where discrepancies arise, you will prepare appeal documents for our regulators. These documents provide an overview of the incident and the likely impact to support the correct categorisation.

You’ll also support wider continuous improvement activities with the purpose of increasing knowledge, changing behaviours and altering systems and processes for the better. You’ll act as an advocate for the environment, promoting at any opportunity, the importance of pollution reduction amongst internal and external stakeholders.

The role involves but is not limited to: 

  • Reviewing, validating and extending our pollution data set by capturing areas of discrepancy in the categorisation of a pollution incident and auditing the quality of information.

  • Compiling evidence for use in the appeals document supplied to our regulator, the EA.

  • Obtaining and interpreting corporate data sets such as photographs, sample data, job notes, telemetry, historical data, mapping and modelling.

  • Providing support to the business on key EA guidance documents such as CICs and 16_02, in particular in the production of the incident Storyboard.

  • Contributing to activities that drive knowledge, behavioural and system improvements across pollutions through data or information gathering, tracking of actions, record keeping and collation of feedback.

  • Acting as an advocate for the environment, raising awareness of the importance of pollution reduction (Zero pollutions mindset).

  • Building and maintaining relationships with key internal and external environmental stakeholders.

What does it take to be a Pollution Prevention Analyst?

  • Water industry experience desirable

  • Understanding of environmental challenges and regulatory elements desirable

  • Excellent analytical and interrogation skills with proficiency in related IT systems

  • Exceptional attention to detail  

  • High level of verbal and written communication  

  • An ability to deliver work at pace to meet challenging deadlines  

  • Resilient and adaptable to changing needs of the business   

  • Self-directed with strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise

  • A proven ability to network and build collaborative partnerships both internally and externally

  • Full driving licence (you may be required to visit sites across the region which are only accessible by car)
