Underwriting Team Manager – Maidenhead, SL6 3QQ

** We’re Hiring: Underwriting Team Manager **
Location: Remote
Hours: Monday – Friday 09:00-17:30
Department: Lending Operations
Reports to: Head of Lending Operations
Direct Reports: 8-10

Overall Purpose:

The Underwriting Team Manager must ensure that all financial control, quality, regulatory, responsible lending and service requirements are maintained by leading, motivating and developing their team. Maintaining the highest levels of customer service and quality while continually improving the operational efficiency and service delivery of the department are all key areas of this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direction Setting: Performance management, team development, operational efficiency, and adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Customer and Relationship Management: Ensure service excellence, quality underwriting, liaise with third-party suppliers, and handle escalated issues.
  • People Management: Lead and motivate the team, ensure staffing levels, and manage performance against targets.
  • Financial Management: Operate within budget, identify cost reduction opportunities, and enhance operational processes.
  • Process Management: Manage team workflow, ensure customer service delivery, and identify process improvements.
  • Risk and Compliance Management: Ensure regulatory compliance, manage financial crime prevention, and handle complaints.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience in leading a Mortgage Underwriting team
  • Regulatory knowledge, underwriting mandate, leadership, coaching, and development experience.
  • Integrity, business and market awareness, ability to analyse performance measures, and risk assessment.
  • Experience in underwriting and leading teams in a mortgage environment.
  • CeMAP/CeRCC preferred or willingness to train.
  • Knowledge of residential and buy-to-let underwriting processes.
  • Experience within specialist lending would be an advantage
