About the Role
Leeds City College are seeking a Teacher of Future Pathways to join us!
The Future Pathways Teacher provides high-quality, targeted preparation for adulthood and leads on the delivery of employability, life-skills, and transition education within the Future Pathways department. As a qualified teacher, the post-holder will take overall responsibility for diagnosing barriers to independence, planning bespoke progression strategies, and delivering engaging, highly differentiated lessons to high-needs learners with EHCPs.
What You Will Do
- Plan and teach engaging, highly adapted lessons centered on employability, workplace communication, tailored to the unique cognitive and sensory needs of learners with EHCPs.
- Take ownership of tracking and implementing the “Preparation for Adulthood” (PfA) outcomes within each student’s EHCP, ensuring every lesson builds a direct bridge toward their personal independence.
- Facilitate and lead practical transition activities, including supported workplace encounters, college visits, and provider orientation days to prepare students for the realities of further education or the workplace.
- Work hand-in-hand with the SENCo, internal support staff, and external pathway partners to ensure every learner has a joined-up, secure, and clear progression route.
- Act as a trusted point of contact for parents and carers, providing them with clear academic updates and guiding them through the milestones needed for a successful transition.
About You
- You hold a recognised teaching qualification (QTS/QTLS or equivalent), or you possess relevant industry/SEND experience and a strong willingness to work towards a formal teaching qualification with our support.
- You possess a deep understanding of teaching learners with EHCPs. You know how to expertly differentiate content, manage diverse cognitive and sensory profiles, and adapt your teaching pace without compromising on high expectations.
- You understand the statutory EHCP annual review process and are familiar with the “Preparation for Adulthood” (PfA) framework, knowing how to translate these legal documents into meaningful, daily classroom practice.
- You don’t just teach from a textbook; you are passionate about giving young people the practical life skills, self-advocacy tools, and employability mindsets they need to thrive after they leave education.
