Job Opportunity: SISS Maintenance Engineer – Facilities Department (GTR)
Base Location: Hitchin (with travel across all GTR stations and depots)
Working Pattern: Full-time, field-based
Salary: depending on experience, On Call allowance

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Facilities Department as a SISS Maintenance Engineer, supporting the performance and reliability of GTR’s customer information infrastructure. As part of our In-House SISS Maintenance Team, you’ll play a key role in maintaining and installing systems that directly impact passenger experience, including:
- Station Customer Information Screens
- Station Customer Help Points
- Station Public Address Systems
- Station PA Roaming Microphone Systems
This is a hands-on, field-based role requiring travel across the GTR network and working outdoors in all weather conditions. There is an on call commitment within the role.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Investigating and resolving faults on digital systems.
Installing and maintaining telecoms and data infrastructure.
Working with technologies such as IP networks, GSM, RS485, and TCP/IP.
Delivering excellent service in a dynamic, customer-facing environment.
What We’re Looking For:
Strong customer service and communication skills
Experience maintaining digital systems in complex environments (railway experience preferred)
Proven problem-solving skills in technical settings
Experience with telecoms systems, including data and electrical cabling
Electrical qualification (advantageous)
Full UK driving licence (essential)
