JOB PURPOSE

The IT Service Asset & Configuration Manager is accountable for establishing, managing, and improving the governance and control of IT assets and Configuration Items (CIs) across the organisation. Working closely with regional teams and third-party vendors, the post-holder will ensure that the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) is accurate, complete and supports effective service delivery, risk management, and decision-making.

This role will be critical to the development and implementation of the IT Asset and Configuration Management (ITACM) strategy and practices, in line with a Service Integration and Management (SIAM) operating model. The successful candidate will lead the definition of standards, processes and data models that underpin asset lifecyclemanagement and accurate configuration tracking within the ITSM toolset (Helix).

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Define and implement processes, standards, and policies for end-to-end IT asset lifecycle management in alignment with ITIL best practice.
  • Own the Configuration Management Database (CMDB), providing governance, oversight and ensuring that it remains accurate, complete, and fit for purpose.
  • Oversee the population and ongoing maintenance of the CMDB, including managing data inputs from regional teams, suppliers, projects, and discovery tools.
  • Establish and lead CMDB governance practices, ensuring alignment with service management and risk control requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with service owners and solution architects to define and maintain accurate service models and relationship mappings between assets, applications, infrastructure and services.
  • Develop a configuration management strategy aligned to the organisation's move towards a SIAM model, including service-to-CI mapping and supplier engagement.
  • Manage and support the integration of automated discovery tools and other data sources into the CMDB, ensuring integrity, reconciliation, and alignment with configuration standards.
  • Provide assurance and compliance through regular audits, data quality checks, and reconciliation activities; ensure audit readiness for internal and external reviews.
  • Support service transition activities by ensuring that new or changed assets are appropriately configured to agreed standards and they are accurately represented within the CMDB at the point of transition.
  • Work closely with regional teams and third-party suppliers to ensure asset data quality, consistency, and completeness.
  • Provide regular asset reporting and dashboards to SIAM, regional, and functional teams to support visibility, planning, and service assurance.
  • Promote the value and importance of asset and configuration management across the organisation.
  • Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of ITACM practices within the Helix ITSM tool.
