Senior Structures Engineer – Birmingham 

About the job.

National Highways have an excellent opportunity for a Senior Structures Engineer to join our team in the Midlands region on a permanent basis. The Senior Structures Engineer will provide technical expertise in various structural assessment activities, CS 451 Reviews and Asset Management of Highway structures assets. As a Senior Structures Engineer, you will lead on various high/very high priority structures assessments, CS 451 Reviews and management of substandard structures.

This role can be based from our Birmingham or Nottingham office.

Please note that you will be required to drive as part of your role, and you will need to have no more than 3 points to be considered for this position and during employment.

  • Lead and coordinate various structural assessment activities and CS 451 Reviews and resources involved in the in the structural risk identification and risk management process in order to maintain Structures stock in the Midlands in a safe and serviceable condition.
  • Undertake high priority/urgent structural assessments in tight timescales to identify/confirm level of structural risks and need for interim measures. Obtain approval from the TAA.
  • Undertake high priority CS 451 Reviews in tight timescales to identify/confirm need for structural assessments and their priorities including need for interim measures. Obtain approval from the TAA.
  • Produce CS 470 interim measures documents, obtain approval from the TAA and manage implementation of measures.
  • Identify, prepare briefs and support delivery of survey works that support the structures assessments and review works.
  • Manage delivery of technical documents produced by the Consultants. Review the technical documents and provide comments to the Consultants.

About you.

  • A Chartered or Incorporated Civil or Structural Engineer with appropriate experience, or equivalent
  • Experience in Highway Structures management, assessments and structural reviews.
  • Working knowledge of Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) standards, methods of working & Specification for Highway Works and Eurocodes.
  • Degree or HND in relevant discipline
  • Knowledge of Construction Design Management 2015 and associated duties.
