Senior Mechanical Engineer
Barnstaple based (with a mix of office and home-based working)

Salary up to £53k per annum DOE + Benefits inc. half day Friday, flexi time, hybrid working patterns and more.

We have an impactful and exciting opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our existing team in Barnstaple. You will provide Mechanical Engineering input into the design and development of company products and projects, including the development of novel capabilities for the Land (Small Arms) and Maritime (Sonar/Comms) domains. Working within well-established Work Packages and Project Plans, you will liaise with subject matter experts, customers and suppliers on all technical issues relating to system design.

What you’ll do

  • Produce sound technical solutions and ensure that they are well defined, optimised and understood
  • Provide input into engineering effort and duration estimates, to ensure that work packages are delivered to quality, time and cost
  • Work to project milestones, with strong focus on the Customer’s requirements
  • Work with Project Managers to support the provision of accurate progress reports, and to escalate emergent risks and issues
  • Understand the technical trade-offs involved in making priority and ‘fit-for-purpose’ determinations

 

What you’ll bring

  • Previous Mechanical Engineering experience
  • You must have experience within Solidworks or similar 3D CAD package
  • Experience with part / configuration control package (e.g. Solidworks PDM, Windchill)
  • You must have experience with Finite Element analysis design (FEA)
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong organisational skills and an ability to work independently to both fixed and flexible deadlines
  • A passion for working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams
  • Experience in design for Defence products would be beneficial
