Provide Mechanical Engineering input into the design and development of company products and projects, liaising with subject matter experts, customers and suppliers on all technical issues relating to system design.
Senior Mechanical Engineer will be based at our Barnstaple site. This role allows for flexible working.
The salary for this role is up to £55k, depending on experience.
What you’ll be doing
- Mechanical Design & Development (80%)
- Complete engineering designs using SEA approved tools (Solidworks)
- Understand other SEA tools that support Mechanical content delivery (e.g. Altium, Zuken)
- Build and test prototype equipment to support project delivery
- Produce design documentation, including design specifications, test specifications and any required supporting documents for a Manufacturing Data Pack (MDP)
- Produce stress calculations to support design work, using a combination of first principles, design codes and FE analysis
- Manage the design Manufacturing Data Pack
- Work with production engineering teams to create & maintain standard operating procedures / build instructions for designed products
- Support SEA products during manufacturing, assembly, testing, installation, and through service life
- Understand and implement the company’s environmental, health & safety policy by accepting individual responsibility and responsibility for those personnel under their authority, including others who may be affected by the company’s activities
- Support production tasks where required, including Issue Management
- Technical Governance (10%)
- Review and release mechanical design work.
- Ensure MDP is robust and fit for purpose.
- Bid & Project Management (10%)
- Define and agree mechanical work packages (scope, estimates, costs).
- Define mechanical elements of solutions to support bids and enquiries.
- Identify and mitigate technical risks.
- Set a strong personal example regarding all health and safety matters.

The skills you need
- HND or degree qualified within Mechanical Engineering or Similar
- Previous experience within a similar role
- Ability to use 3D CAD packages (ideally Solidworks)
- Knowledge of, and ability to work within, engineering change management systems
- Ability to effectively use PDM / PLM systems for engineering data
- Experience within the defence or manufacturing environment would be desirable
- Understanding of the full engineering lifecycle
