The Faculty of Arts & Humanities is distinctive in representing academic excellence across a diverse range of disciplines, from longer established disciplines such as Philosophy, Classics, and English, to more recently established fields including Digital Humanities and Film. About the role
The Faculty is seeking a Senior Institute Manager to lead and manage the Digital Futures Institute’s day-to-day operations and to provide administrative support to deliver its strategic growth ambition. This role becomes available at an exciting time as this interdisciplinary Institute, and its associated Centres are growing fast and are connecting colleagues from within the faculty and across the institution to forge a better relationship between the individual and technology.
Working in close partnership with the Institute’s academic leadership, they will manage and deliver a wide range of business operations activity in support of the Institute’s developing research and professional education portfolio. The postholder with manage the Institute budget and will work closely with the Institute Director to facilitate effective governance (including monitoring and advising Institute leadership on progress against KPIs), and will lead on provision of management data to underpin internal and external reporting. The postholder will network and connect both within and externally to the institution when appropriate to share best practice.
The successful applicant will be a proactive person with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build good working relationships with colleagues across the College and externally. They will have significant experience in managing financial processes, including budget management. They will be highly organised and numerate, with strong written and verbal communication skills, an entrepreneurial spirit, strong team working skills, and a proactive, can-do attitude.

This post will be offered on a full-time, indefinite contract.
About you
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential:
- Demonstrable experience of overseeing operations within a business, department, or faculty environment, including determining resource allocation, establishing policies and processes and contributing to the development of efficient and effective operational services.
- Significant experience of managing budgets including monitoring, reporting and acting on financial performance.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to draft documents and correspondence, build effective relationships with a range of stakeholders and participate in senior management meetings.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively, work with efficiency and to tight deadlines.
- Ability to work independently, proactively, and flexibly, using own judgement and initiative when appropriate.
- Ability to understand and analyse complex information and present data to a range of audiences.
- Ability to influence/lead others, whilst contributing effectively as part of a team with a ‘hands-on’ approach to working.
- Experience leading, managing or mentoring individuals or teams, including supporting development and workload planning, with an inclusive management style.
Desirable:
- Experience of research grant application processes, procedures and compliance requirements, or working in a research management role.
- Demonstrable experience of servicing senior level committees that have included a wide range of secretarial duties.
