Senior Civil & Structural Engineer – Manchester

Job Description

As a Senior Civil & Structural Engineer you will be responsible for delivering key elements of design work on projects including carrying out feasibility studies, reference designs, detailed designs, and preparing reports and technical specifications and proposals for key local and regional clients.

This will include both design delivery and management of resources, prioritizing / sequencing work, supporting others and driving design delivery progress.

Responsibility for output quality.

This is a hybrid role based out of our Manchester, office attendance typically up to 3 days per week, with remote working option for well being on other days. There will be visits to construction sites, partners, clients and suppliers as required.

Responsibilities

You will:

  • Take responsibility for leading small projects and sub tasks from a technical perspective
  • Prepare preliminary and detailed design analysis, calculations, specifications and related documentation for civil and structural works
  • Communicate designs effectively to the BIM teams
  • Communicate effectively with other disciplines and construction teams
  • Communicate confidently and authoritatively with clients
  • Challenge and deliver value engineering solutions
  • Support and guide more junior team members

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Essentials

  • Have UK experience in the full cycle of project design delivery from inception to detailed design
  • Experience of working within UK multidisciplinary teams and able to provide technical monitoring to less experienced engineers and designers
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Eligibility for Security Clearance

Desirable

  • Mobility to work on various projects throughout the UK
  • Have UK site or construction experience
  • Experience from multiple sectors / industries ideally including Rail
  • Be able to work independently
  • Have line management / mentoring experience

Qualifications

Essential

  • Be on track or have achieved professional qualifications such as Chartership or Incorporated Status
  • Educational experience relevant to their engineering discipline, ideally degree qualified to a 2:1 or better
  • Secondary level education, such as A levels, BTEC, T levels etc
  • Safety passport or similar

Desirable

  • Additional technically focused qualifications / training
