Overview

Research Assistant in Supporting Materials Science Students into Semiconductors – Strand, London, WC2R 2LS

About us

Recently re-founded, the Department of Engineering is rapidly expanding into a world-class research and teaching department. Research currently focuses on robotics, telecommunications and biomedical engineering, but we are looking to establish new research themes.

We offer both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, with a distinctive approach, combining both traditional teaching methods with modern, project-based learning, catering for the needs of our students and the industries in which they will work.

As a new department we have invested in new laboratories and maker space at the centre of the Strand campus in the heart of central London.

About the role

The role is for a 0.8 FTE research assistant (RA) to work on a project, Semiconductor: Skills, Talent and Education Programme (STEP), funded by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), in collaboration with UK Electronics Skills Foundation and Aston University. One of the targets in STEP is to enable materials graduates to further their understanding of semiconductor design and opto-electronics and support them to join semiconductor industries.  The project aims to identify the skill gaps between materials degrees and job requirements in semiconductor industries.

The RA will work with Dr Tayebeh Mousavi to review current landscape of Materials science graduates in the semiconductor sectors through communicating (both in-person and online) with the relevant industries. The RA will analyse the current landscape of Materials Science in Higher Education (degree courses, program content and students). The RA will produce relevant reports summarising the analysis and the surveys.
