Project Officer – YOLO – Newcastle upon Tyne

To support the delivery of the YOLO Early Intervention programme.
The role requires partnership working with key agencies such as Northumbria Police, local
authorities, Northumbria Violence Reduction Unit, schools, and social care services.
You will be required to: manage a case load of young people, aged between 10yrs and 16yrs inclusive,
to tackle attitudes and behaviours which are likely to lead to offending. You must have the ability to
plan and develop interventions which will divert young people away from criminal or anti-social
behaviour and be able to signpost young people to existing provision in their local area. You must be
flexible and able to work with young people in a variety of settings and able to engage them via one
to-one mentoring support.
This role requires a passion for delivering sessions, programmes and activities to young people that
require this support, whilst using football and the brand of Newcastle United Football Club to engage
young people at risk of criminality.
MAIN DUTIES:
Duties/Responsibilities
- Actively engage with relevant local partners including the Police, local authorities,
Youth Service, Youth Justice Services, housing authorities, health and education
services and any other relevant local partners. - Support and mentor a case load of young people who are at risk of serious youth
violence, providing them with a platform for sustainable behaviour change. - Ensure existing links with multi-agencies are maintained and developed.
- Support young people who may face barriers to learning – displaying empathy, trust
and building a positive rapport. - Ensure registration and monitoring information is collected and data entry is
completed; including case notes is completed as required to meet internal and
external deadlines and external assessment criteria. - Ensure the appropriate supervision and safeguarding of participants, following
Foundation policies & procedures. - Ensure that the course’s activities meet the needs of all young people including
those with disabilities and that the activities are sociocultural competent. - Supervise young people during sessions, confirming any behaviour management
protocol to be followed. - Effectively input case notes, safeguarding and wellbeing concerns (where
applicable) through our internal case management system, whilst following
Foundation policies. - Work across other Foundation programmes as and when required.
- Help the Foundation seek feedback from young people, Parents/Carers, Educational
settings and external partners. - Support the Senior Project Coordinator to produce resources and learning
materials. - Always present a professional image of Newcastle United Foundation, wearing
officially branded kit when appropriate. - Regularly identify and share good news stories with the Senior Project Coordinator
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Qualification/Education
- Maths and English GCSE or equivalent
- Teaching qualification or award (e.g. PTTLS)
- Valid Emergency First Aid Award and Valid Safeguarding award
- Youth Work L2 (or be willing to work towards)
Experience
- Delivering programmes that engage young adults and/or young people
- Working with groups facing barriers to participation or learning
- Partnership working
- Managing challenging behaviour
- Involving young people in user led activities
- Monitoring and evaluating work, planning, and recording and measuring
outcomes - Developing schemes of work, session plans and accompanying resources
- Working for, or with a criminal justice agency e.g. police or YOT
Specialist Training
