The International, Engagement & Service (IES) Directorate provides support for King’s College London’s engagement with communities and partners in London, across the UK, and around the world.
Driving change and responding to the needs and aspirations of the communities we serve is at the heart of everything we do in IES. Our team leads some of King’s most impact-driven programmes, including One King’s Impact, the King’s Sanctuary Programme, King’s Volunteering, and the Afe Babalola Centre for Transnational Education, among others.
Through these initiatives, together with our broader civic and place-based engagement both locally and internationally, we enrich opportunities for students, foster research partnerships that tackle pressing global challenges, and unlock the impact King’s can make for people, planet and society.
About the role:
The Programme Manager is crucial to the successful delivery of these high-impact projects that span the breadth of our International, Engagement and Service portfolio. Working across several programmes in different stages of development, the postholder will collaborate with programme leads to provide strategic oversight and governance that ensures aims are being met and risks managed, strategies developed and implemented, and programmes driven forward successfully towards their goal. The role will support stakeholders to manage change as programmes evolve and will build a network of strong relationships across King’s. They will champion best practice in programme management, working collaboratively to embed this across the directorate.
Duties will include enabling the translation of vision and plans into action, facilitating strategy development, and implementing change management, stakeholder engagement and relationship management across programmes.
The postholder will also be responsible for driving forward King’s work in Cultural Competency and will line manage temporary workers contracted to support on key programmes.
This is a full-time post and you will be offered an indefinite contract.
About you:
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable experience of working on multi-stakeholder strategy development and/or project management, evidencing strategy development aptitudes e.g. structured thinking, options analysis, business case development.
- Strong knowledge of programme management best practice, including change management, stakeholder engagement, project planning, risk management and budget management.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with demonstrated ability to work with diverse communities and a developed sense of cultural competency and emotional intelligence.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan and manage competing priorities and work to tight deadlines.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and present actionable insights clearly across a range of audiences, both verbally and in written form.
- Solutions-focused approach with the ability to adapt to new challenges and deal with ambiguity.
- Developed influencing skills, being able to work across all levels of the organisation collaboratively and provide constructive challenge.
- Enthusiasm for the work of the International, Engagement and Service Directorate at King’s.
Desirable criteria
- A project management qualification or similar.
- Educated to degree level or equivalent qualification.
- Experience of working in a higher education setting.
- Experience of establishing organisation-wide innovations that have required cultural change.
