Faculty

The Faculty of Technology, Arts & Culture (TAC) is home to many of DMU's creative disciplines and humanities subjects and is one of the UK's leading Higher Education providers of creative disciplines. The Centre for English Language Learning (CELL) sits within TAC and supports international students both at DMU and at overseas partner universities with their Academic English.

 

Role

DMU has a 20-year Partnership with Liaoning University in Shenyang, NE China. Shenyang is famous for its blend of history, nature, culture, and modernity, and is within easy reach of the mountains, the coast and the Great Wall of China.

Your role will be to line manage and lead a team of Lecturers teaching English for Academic Purposes (EAP) to students in the initial English Year of their 4-year dual award programme. Teaching takes place across two semesters, with Semester 1 usually running for 12 weeks from late September to mid-December, and Semester 2 for 16 weeks from early March to mid-June.

You will be expected to:

  • Line manage a small team of DMU English teaching staff on secondment at LNU.
  • Lead the ongoing academic development of the English Year Programme.
  • Work closely with the management team in the UK and China to ensure the success of the Programme.
  • Prepare and deliver EAP classes on campus at LNU.
  • Support students through 1-1 and group tutorials.
  • Assess students’ performance through formative and summative assessments.

 

Ideal Candidate

  • A Diploma in English Language Teaching (preferred) or an MA in ELT / TESOL or similar alongside a TEFL certificate (eg CELTA or TESOL) which includes a minimum of 5 hours of observed teaching.
  • The operational skills, creativity and drive to manage and develop the EAP programme
  • The leadership and people skills to line manage a team of 6 EAP lecturers
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience of teaching EAP at a Higher Education Institution.
  • The flexibility and qualities needed to live in China and work on a Chinese university campus for a full academic year.

Practical Information

Planned start date: Monday 17th August 2026 (teaching in China from late September).

Planned contract end date: 31st August 2028.

Support in daily life will be provided by the partner university staff, some of whom are expatriate teachers, as well as the DMU English Year team.

Two return flights to China per academic year, accommodation and settling-in costs will be provided by DMU.

DMU will cover the costs of obtaining a work visa to teach in China. Please note:
