About the role

The Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures wishes to appoint a Lecturer in Comparative Literature with expertise in modern Chinese literature.
 
The successful candidate will have established a research profile commensurate to the stage of their career and will have teaching experience in Comparative Literature and/or related disciplines. They will have expertise in modern Chinese literature.
 
The successful candidate will teach on a range of undergraduate and postgraduate modules and will be expected to supervise undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations as appropriate. They will contribute to the pastoral care of students and play a role in recruitment and outreach activities as part of the Department admissions team.
 
This is a full time post, and you will be offered a fixed term contract from 5 January 2026 (or as soon as possible thereafter) until 31st December 2026.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
 
 Essential criteria
  1. PhD in relevant subject
  2. Undergraduate teaching experience in HEI
  3. Proven expertise in Chinese literature
  4. Excellent knowledge of the UK Higher Education system
  5. Experience in student pastoral care
Desirable criteria
  1. Administrative experience
  2. Postgraduate teaching experience
  3. Experience in outreach
