Here’s more about the role and what we’re looking for:

We are presenting two opportunities to join the department of Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering, within the School of Aeronautical, Automotive, Chemical and Materials Engineering as a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer. For more information about the department please visit Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering | Loughborough University

We are seeking applicants with experience in or across the following areas:

Batteries & Renewable Energy

We are seeking candidates with a strong background in battery technology, hydrogen or other renewable energy areas relevant to the Aeronautical and Automotive sectors. Areas of interest include (but are not limited to), battery simulation and model parameterization, system integration, control, thermal management, degradation, advanced prognostics, artificial intelligence informed data analysis, fuel cells and next generation battery chemistry. The successful candidate will work alongside other academics in the department and wider multidisciplinary fields to build a strong international track record in their field and contribute towards research-informed teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate taught programs. They will also have access to the battery and hydrogen experimental facilities within the Department of Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering.

Informal details can be sought from: Dr Ashley Fly, A.Fly@lboro.ac.uk

Aerodynamics

We are seeking candidates with expertise in aerodynamics relevant to the Aeronautical and Automotive sectors and the pursuit of sustainable aviation and net zero transport. We are looking for a strong track record in experimental and/or computational research in areas such as (but not limited to) aircraft external aerodynamics, ground vehicle aerodynamics, the generation of lift and drag, boundary layers and flow control, flows relevant to gas turbines and/or internal combustion engines, multi-phase flows, reacting flows, advanced experimental numerical techniques, high fidelity computational fluid dynamics, and the use of AI. The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with Department colleagues and more broadly across the engineering disciplines. Our academics are also expected to develop wider networks through collaboration with industry and successful research funding applications. The successful candidate will also be responsible for the development and delivery of high-quality research-informed teaching across a range of undergraduate and post graduate modules, in addition to supervising and directing research students.

Informal details can be sought from: Prof. Duncan Walker, A.D.Walker@lboro.ac.uk

Structures

We are seeking candidates with expertise in structural engineering, particularly in materials and structures operating under demanding conditions. Research could have a focus on areas such as high-temperature applications, protective coatings, advanced alloys, composites, lightweight structures, failure and fracture mechanics, durability, fatigue, lifetime analysis, adhesives, interfaces, and power materials, though other relevant specialisms will also be considered. A strong background in computational methods, including finite element analysis and other advanced modelling techniques, would be advantageous. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver research-informed teaching, supervise and direct research students, engage with industry, and establish or grow a strong research track record. While collaboration with colleagues in related disciplines is encouraged, this role is primarily within the Department of Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering, with an emphasis on structural performance and engineering applications.

Informal details can be sought from: Dr Chris Harvey, C.M.Harvey@lboro.ac.uk
