We are looking for an ambitious and talented data scientist or AI specialist to lead a transformational innovation project at durhamlane, a leading B2B sales development organisation, headquartered in the North East of England.
This is an exceptional opportunity to apply cutting-edge data science, machine learning, and AI research to real commercial challenges, working at the heart of a high-growth business while being supported by a specialist academic team at Northumbria University.
You will lead a transformation project, a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) that offers:

About durhamlane
durhamlane is a specialist B2B sales development business that helps organisations grow revenue through expert outsourced and embedded sales teams. With a reputation for commercial excellence and innovation, durhamlane works with clients across a wide range of sectors to accelerate sales performance.
This KTP represents a strategic investment in data and AI capability that will transform the way durhamlane’s teams use data to make decisions, engage prospects, and optimise campaigns. You will be based at their premises in the North East, embedded within the business and working closely with SDR teams, leadership, and operational staff.
The Project
The project is structured across four phases:
- Exploration & Discovery: auditing durhamlane’s full data landscape, assessing data quality, architecture, and governance, and developing a strategic data roadmap
- Algorithm Development: consolidating data into a centralised data lake and building AI/ML models for lead scoring, conversion prediction, campaign optimisation, and digital persona segmentation
- Visualisation: designing and deploying production-ready, real-time dashboards that surface predictive insights to SDR teams and leadership
- Project Closure: ensuring full operational handover, sustainability planning, and identification of future development opportunities
Throughout the project you will work collaboratively with academic supervisors at Northumbria University who bring specialist expertise in data science, AI, and human-centred design, ensuring the solutions you develop are grounded in the latest research and best practice.
What’s on Offer
- The chance to lead and deliver a high-impact, end-to-end AI and data transformation programme in a live commercial environment
- Hands-on experience developing and deploying predictive ML models, digital persona analytics, and real-time dashboards used daily by sales teams
- Close collaboration with an expert academic supervisory team at Northumbria University with specialist knowledge directly relevant to the project
- Professional training and personal development
- Salary of £35,000 – £38,000 per annum (depending on experience), benchmarked against comparable industry and research roles in the North East
- Strong potential to be retained in a permanent role at durhamlane at the end of the project, leading the ongoing development of this capability
- Opportunity to contribute to academic outputs including peer-reviewed journal papers and conference presentations
- A supportive, innovative, and commercially driven working environment with genuine strategic influence
What We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in Data Science, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a closely related discipline (a Master’s degree with significant applied experience will also be considered). You will be technically strong, commercially curious, and confident communicating with non-technical stakeholders.
Key skills and experience we are looking for include:
- Strong data analysis and modelling skills using Python, R, or similar
- Knowledge of AI/ML techniques for prediction and classification
- Experience with data governance, data quality assessment, and consolidating data from multiple sources
- Data visualisation and dashboard development (e.g. Python, R, Power BI, Tableau, or similar)
- Ability to work independently, and as part of a team while managing a complex project, and deliver to deadlines
- Excellent communication skills, able to translate technical findings for business audiences
- A collaborative, adaptable approach with the ability to build strong working relationships
Experience in sales, marketing, or CRM data environments, cloud data platforms, or familiarity with LLM/generative AI technologies would be advantageous but is not essential.
