Nottingham College is seeking an exceptional and inspirational Head of Estates & Maintenance to lead the operational management, maintenance, compliance, and development of our diverse estate portfolio.
As one of the largest colleges in the country, we serve thousands of learners across multiple campuses and continually invest in creating safe, sustainable, and inspiring environments that support outstanding teaching, learning, and community engagement. The College is actively delivering ambitious sustainability, environmental improvement, and estate-modernisation programmes across its campuses. This is a rare opportunity for an experienced estates professional to join a high-performing leadership team and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our estate.
The Role
Reporting to the Director of Estates & Capital Projects, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for all estates maintenance activities across the College’s portfolio. You will be responsible for:
- Leading and developing a multi-disciplinary estates and maintenance team.
- Ensuring statutory compliance across all buildings, plant, equipment and infrastructure.
- Managing planned preventative maintenance programmes and reactive maintenance services.
- Driving service improvements and delivering high standards of customer service across campuses.
- Managing estates budgets and achieving value for money.
- Overseeing contractor performance and compliance.
- Supporting capital projects from planning through to handover.
- Leading health, safety, environmental and sustainability initiatives.
- Developing asset management strategies that support long-term estate resilience and operational excellence
About You
We are looking for an outstanding leader who combines technical expertise with excellent people management skills. You will have:
- Significant experience managing large and complex estates portfolios.
- Proven success in leading and improving maintenance and facilities teams.
- Strong knowledge of statutory compliance, health and safety legislation, and estates management best practice.
- Experience managing maintenance contracts, contractors, and service providers.
- Strong financial and budget management skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- A proactive and solutions-focused approach to service improvement.
- Relevant professional qualifications in estates, building services, facilities management, engineering, surveying, or a related discipline.
