Costain Graduate Development Programme:

Our programme will focus on helping individual to learn a mix of both Leadership and Technical skills.

We offer a structured training programme to enable graduates to work towards achieving Chartership in their chosen field.

Graduates may also have the opportunity, after the first 8 – 10 months to rotate and to work on a number of exciting and progressive projects around the UK during the 2-year period, experiencing the best we have to offer across the different sectors we work in.

Our line managers are fully supportive of the Graduate Development Programme and will be involved in helping you along the way.

About the project: Costain have been chosen to work with URENCO and be their Programme Delivery Partner (PDP) to deliver new and upgraded infrastructure to their site and facilities. The framework is expected to see at least 40 contracts and different scopes be awarded to Costain to deliver in at least a three-year period. URENCO’s site provides uranium enrichment services to produce fuel for civil nuclear power stations in the UK and around the world to generate low-carbon electricity. Costain’s role is to strategically develop the upgrade plan with URENCO and deliver the contracts in a safe, timely and cost-efficient manner.

Security clearance: Please note that for some of our roles, and to rotate around the business as part of the Graduate scheme, you may be required to obtain and maintain security clearance of at least Security Check level. For this you will need to have been a legal U.K. resident for a minimum of 5 years and be able to successfully complete the vetting process.

Responsibilities

Key Tasks & Responsibilities: As a Graduate Engineer, you will be responsible for a key element of work on a project taking a significant role in technical delivery. In addition, you will have the responsibility of managing all aspects of time, cost and quality and will acquire technical, leadership and project management skills and experience. This will include undertaking the following tasks:

  • Design and design management to ensure the technical output meets the requirements set by the delivery team.
  • Ensure all aspects of the project align with engineering and design specifications, industry standards and construction regulations.
  • Analysing and interpreting engineering drawings, survey reports and other technical documentation to guide the construction process.
  • Producing and reviewing technical documentation.
  • Planning and sequencing of operations, including writing Method Statements and updating the Safe Systems of Work for our Contractor and Sub-Contractor Works, ensuring compliance of approval dates and information accuracy.
  • Implementing operational quality control including setting out and QA processes
  • Supervising and managing construction activities from start to finish, ensuring adherence to project plans, drawings and specifications.
  • Commercial management including reporting project updates and potential risks to the delivery team.
  • Identifying potential risks and implementing preventive measures to minimise project delays, cost overruns and safety hazards.
  • Developing strong working relationships with the client to understand their requirements and opportunities for further work.

Qualifications

About You:

  • An Engineering Degree with at least 2:2 or above
  • IT proficient (Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD and other software)
  • A good working knowledge of construction methods, materials and regulations.
  • Excellent organisation, communication, and time management skills.
  • A willingness to learn and take on new challenges.
  • Have passion for Costain’s Carbon Net Zero targets.
  • A willingness to learn with appropriate instruction
  • Excel at building and maintaining positive relationships
  • The ability to thrive in time sensitive situations

  • Mobility to work on various projects over the 2-year programme throughout the UK if required
