Overview

Executive Dean, Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care – Strand, London, WC2R 2LS

Executive Dean

Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care

King’s College London

With its origins in the work of two remarkable women, Florence Nightingale, who established the first professional nurse training school at St Thomas’ Hospital in 1960, and Dame Cicely Saunders, noted for her palliative care research and role in the birth of the hospice movement, the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care (NMPC) is today a world-leading centre for education, training and research.

NMPC is strongly positioned to continue to be at the forefront of pioneering excellence across allied health professions.  It is enjoying significant momentum, with King’s having climbed from 2nd to 1st in the world for Nursing in QS this year, enjoyed an exceptional return in REF2021, and is home to a cohort of ~2.600 students across undergraduate, postgraduate taught, and postgraduate research.

King’s College London is now seeking an outstanding leader as Executive Dean to steer NMPC through the next stage of its evolution, as we continue to contribute significantly to the nursing, midwifery and palliative care workforce both domestically, nationally and internationally. The Executive Dean will provide strategic direction to the Faculty, strengthening inter- and multi-disciplinary collaboration, fostering productive relationships with our NHS partners, whilst enhancing student experience. As a member of University Executive and Academic Board, the Executive Dean will contribute to strategic endeavours, playing a pivotal role in the management and governance of the University.

Bringing a distinguished research profile, alongside a commitment to the education agenda, the Executive Dean will exemplify leadership skills, the ability to communicate a compelling vision, and the strategic acumen to navigate financial and operational complexities. The postholder will champion inclusion, foster a culture of respect and collaboration, and inspire confidence among staff, students, and external stakeholders.
