The Research and Innovation Office at Loughborough University is currently recruiting for an Energy Research Accelerator (ERA) Skills Manager to support the regional ERA Skills programme to play a leading role in the development and delivery of high-impact, cross-institutional skills programmes as part of the Energy Research Accelerator (ERA) initiative.

ERA is a flagship Midlands Innovation collaboration involving nine academic institutions and the British Geological Survey, with a mission to transform energy innovation across the region. Skills development is a central pillar of this mission, and the ERA Skills Manager will lead efforts to cultivate the next generation of energy researchers and innovators.

 

As the ERA Skills Manager you will:

  • Lead the ERA Skills Academy, including contributing to the continuation of C-DICE and building on the success of HyDEX, embedding them into ERA’s core activities.
  • Develop a coordinated programme of doctoral and postdoctoral training across partner universities and research centres aligned with ERA’s vision.
  • Work with industry to understand skills needs and foster collaborative opportunities that support upskilling and reskilling.
  • Secure future funding and embed skills development into grant proposals and strategic plans.
  • Promote equity, diversity, and inclusion as part of a just transition to net zero.
  • Build and maintain strong networks across the ERA partnership, industry, and beyond.
  • Travel to partner institutions including the University of Nottingham to build contacts and networks and gather information for the mapping.

 

Key Requirements

  • Experience in managing skills or training programmes in a research or innovation setting.
  • Ability to collaborate across diverse teams and organisations.
  • Strong understanding of the research and innovation landscape, especially in energy or sustainability.

  
The role holder will be required to work closely with academic and professional services staff based at all partner institutions and industry to fully understand the aims and objectives of the ERA Skills Academy. They will work under the strategic direction of the ERA Leadership Group and the Director of the Research Academy, who will also be the line manager.
