The Starling Credit Risk team is looking for someone to join their team as a Credit Oversight Manager – credit risk oversight. This is a senior role within the team and previous credit experience is required. This role is across all of Starling’s portfolios (Mortgage, SME and unsecured) and all aspects of the lending journey, including underwriting/origination, portfolio management, portfolio analysis and Collections/Recoveries.

As a Credit Oversight Manager – Credit Risk Oversight, you will be responsible for:
- Oversight, review and challenge of all relevant 1st line lending activities from a credit risk perspective, covering the entire credit risk cycle across all lending products. This will include the review and challenge of 1st line proposals.
- Acting as an expert in credit risk across the full lending journey.
- Undertake both account level assurance and thematic reviews on all lending activities, which include reviewing customer outcomes, appropriateness of risk controls, quality of reporting, compliance with relevant regulations and the implementation and adherence to risk appetite and policies.
- Driving best practice in the bank’s approach to assurance on its lending activities.
- Support the development and maintenance of the Bank’s credit risk appetite and policy suite.
- Support due diligence on any 3rd party outsourcers and/or portfolio acquisitions.
- Support both 1LOD and 2LOD teams with key projects as required.
- Support the preparation and submission of reporting to credit committees through credit expertise and market insights.
- Support the development of the credit risk team through providing training and coaching to colleagues within the team.
Requirements
- Ideally 5+ years experience in credit risk, either in a second line environment or in a first line lending function with experience in credit assessment/risk.
- Understanding and experience in arrears, collections and recoveries for retail and / or SME lending products.
- Understanding and working knowledge of current and future regulations, e.g. CONC, MCOB
- Excellent attention to detail and an ability to identify trends, issues or opportunities from information to hand (both qualitative and quantitative).
- Technical and interpersonal skills, with an ability to articulate challenge, both verbally and in written reports and be challenged constructively.
- Experienced in using Excel/Google Sheets, Word/Google Docs, Powerpoint/Google slides.
- Organised, flexible and adaptable, with the ability to switch between tasks seamlessly.
- Proven and proactive self starter.
