About the Role
Leeds City College are recruiting for a Course Leader in English to join our team.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a dedicated and dynamic English & Maths team within Creative Arts, based at our Quarry Hill Campus. The School of Creative Arts supports over 1,600 learners, primarily aged 16–18, across three vibrant departments:
- Creative Media and Digital Arts
- Music and Performance Production
- Visual Arts

Quarry Hill is a purpose-built, state-of-the-art campus. It offers outstanding facilities including a 180-seat Chroma-Q Theatre, five fully equipped dance studios, two professional recording studios, TV production suites, dedicated IT suites, and a range of specialist spaces for textiles, printmaking, art, and photography.
What You Will Do
- Manage course outcomes by ensuring retention, achievement, progress, attendance, and positive progression rates for assigned courses.
- Develop and update curriculum including new modules, units, and courses aligned with policies, awarding bodies, student needs, and local economic demands.
- Plan and deliver teaching by preparing schemes of work, lesson plans, assessments, and providing constructive feedback to motivate and inspire learners.
- Maintain quality and effectiveness across the course team, supporting professional development and adapting teaching to meet diverse student needs.
- Monitor and record student progress, ensuring targets are met and assessment activities are timely, accurate, and encouraging.
- Support marketing and student engagement through providing information, advice, guidance, and participation in open days, enrolment, and induction activities.
About You
You will have:
- Ability to inspire and motivate learners to achieve their optimum..
- Relevant up-to-date subject knowledge and recent delivery in the Further Education or school sector.
- Recent teaching delivery demonstrates active learning and differentiated teaching styles.
- Ability to be adaptable and flexible towards the requirements of different learner needs.
- Experience of setting appropriate SMART targets to ensure progression of learners.
