Surrey Liaison and Diversion Service are seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated individual to lead in assessing and supporting children from the age of 10, and young people to the age of 18.  The role is suitable for qualified RMN, and non-qualified Senior Support Workers who have experience of working with Children and Young People.

We support those who have come into contact with the criminal justice system with a caring, compassionate, person-centred approach for all vulnerabilities, initially assessing their needs.  You will provide high quality community-based interventions to not only improve health and social care outcomes but also aim to reduce future re-offending.

You will be a strong advocate for CYPs and work collaboratively with Carers, Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol Services, Social Care, Educational Organisations, Youth Justice Service, Court and Police colleagues to achieve positive outcomes.

This role requires you to provide expertise guidance and advice, be organised, efficient.  The role will be based mainly in the community.  At times you will attend police custody, court, schools, colleges.  Full driving licence is required as the role is Surrey wide.

Main duties of the job

To understand the needs of vulnerable CYPs  based on detailed vulnerability assessments, onward support referrals, providing short term assertive outreach support to children and young people who are involved in the criminal justice system, with the aim of addressing health and social needs, and reducing reoffending.  The role will also provide early intervention support working collaboratively with Surrey Police, Magistrates, Judiciary, Youth Justice Teams, Youth Court, Drug and Alcohol Services, Social Services, Schools and Colleges to reduce the risk of offending, by ensuring CYPs have adequate support, providing training and guidance. 

This role requires both enhanced DBS clearance and Sussex Police clearances (NPPV level 2), which we will assist the successful candidate to apply for.  Essential criteria for clearance:  UK resident for over 3 years.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

· To lead the CYP area of work within the team, engaging with and all relevant Criminal Justice and Social Services and Educational Organisations and Agencies

·   Develop and maintain effective communication with all parts of the service, agencies and organisation

·  Ensure representation in multi-agency meetings and forums such as JDMP, Daily Risk Briefings, ASB Network.

·  Take responsibility for the safeguarding and protection of children and young people and vulnerable adults very seriously, as does The Trust.

 

·  Adhere to Local Authority policy concerning child protection and adult protection procedures

·   Liaise with and advise appropriately, members of the criminal justice system, including the police, magistrates, lawyers, Crown Prosecution Service, Probation Services,  and Youth Justice Teams.

·  Liaise with and work closely with family and carers to meet the needs of individuals, ensuring Carers are referred for assessment and support.

·  Liaise with schools and colleges to ensure individuals are able to obtain and have access to the support they need. 

 

·  Provide written and/or oral reports to agencies as appropriate

·  Provide supervision junior members of the team.

·  Liaise with any professionals, including those already working with the individual to discuss and agree onward referral and plan of care.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree level qualification in a relevant subject, or demonstrable evidence or equivalent experience relevant to the role
  • Driving License suitable for use in the United Kingdom

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive demonstrable clinical experience of working with people with mental health difficulties, or any of a range of other complex health or social vulnerabilities
  • Knowledge and experience of working with children and young people, their families, networks, and carers
  • Knowledge of the (youth) criminal justice system, including a basic understanding of PACE and the PACE code of practice
