Asset Support Manager – Engineering Supply Chain – Monument Place

We’re looking for a skilled and commercially minded individual to manage the contractual and commercial aspects of key Engineering supply contracts.
You’ll develop long-term strategies that maximise value for money, quality, and performance across our supply base.
Working closely with Procurement Category Managers, you’ll ensure all procurement activities deliver efficiency, value, and strong commercial outcomes for the business.

What You’ll Do

  • Manage budgets and oversee expenditure related to key Engineering contracts

  • Work in partnership with Procurement to achieve value for money through effective tendering and negotiation

  • Support the Asset & Business Planning Manager in resolving any disputes linked to key supply chain agreements

  • Build and maintain strong supplier relationships to identify efficiencies, challenge costs, and create improvement opportunities

  • Lead on variations and amendments to commercial agreements

  • Identify, monitor, and mitigate supply chain risks and constraints

  • Prepare robust business cases to support investment, change, or contract adjustments

  • Provide commercial and contractual guidance to depot-based teams — including Engineering Production, Train Presentation, and Overhaul functions

 

What You’ll Bring

Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Specialist knowledge of rail supply operations and commercial practices

  • Degree-level education (or equivalent professional experience)

  • Strong understanding of the regulatory and contractual frameworks that shape the UK rail industry

  • Comprehensive understanding of supply chain operations, logistics, and vendor management best practices

  • Strong financial acumen, with proven experience managing large budgets

  • Confident working with and instructing legal counsel where required

Skills

  • Excellent communication skills — both verbal and written

  • Strong analytical and negotiation skills

  • Ability to interpret and apply contractual rights and obligations effectively

  • Skilled in managing complex commercial arrangements in challenging environments

  • Collaborative approach with the ability to build trusted relationships across all levels

  • Strategic thinker who can balance cost, quality, and operational performance

Experience

  • Preferably practical experience working within rail infrastructure environments

  • Proven experience operating within rail regulatory frameworks

  • Demonstrable success in financial forecasting and budget management

  • A track record of delivering positive outcomes with key suppliers

  • Understanding of rolling stock leasing principles and related commercial considerations
