Level 2 Apprenticeship Rates
- Under 18 years £14,874 per annum
- 18-20 years £19,600 per annum
- 21+ years £23,555 per annum
Leeds City College are recruiting for an Apprentice Technician to join our Sustainable Technologies & Motor Vehicle team.
This Level 2 apprenticeship provides a pathway into a technical career, giving you the opportunity to gain practical skills, recognised qualifications, and contribute to the success of both learners and the department.
As an Apprentice Technician, you will develop the skills and knowledge needed to become an outstanding workshop technician. Working alongside experienced staff, you will gain hands-on experience in supporting teaching, maintaining facilities, and ensuring a safe learning environment.
Throughout your apprenticeship, you will learn to:
- Prepare, maintain, and develop workshop facilities and equipment to a high standard.
- Ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation, including COSHH regulations.
- Order and manage consumables, tools, and equipment for the curriculum area.
- Support staff and students by preparing teaching spaces and demonstrating equipment.
- Facilitate small groups of learners in workshops and independent learning sessions.
- Keep up to date with new technologies and apply these in the workshop.
What You Will Do
As an Apprentice Technician, you will:

Help prepare and maintain workshop spaces, tools, and equipment.

Support staff and students during practical sessions, ensuring a safe learning environment.

Learn to manage stock, order materials, and keep the workshop organised.

Gain hands-on experience in maintaining and checking machinery and tools.

Keep up to date with new technologies and equipment used in the industry.

Develop your skills by facilitating small groups of learners under supervision.

Work towards your apprenticeship qualification, completing 20% off-the-job training.

Uphold Health & Safety, safeguarding, and college policies at all times.
About You
We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, safety-minded, and keen to develop as part of our workshop team.
Qualifications and Attainments

Working towards a Level 2 Customer Service qualification (Essential)

Willing to complete a COSHH qualification as part of the apprenticeship (Essential)

A relevant vocational qualification in your subject area, at least Level 3 (Essential)

English, maths, and automotive maintenance at Level 2 (or achieved before completion of the apprenticeship) (Essential)
Experience and Knowledge

Up-to-date subject knowledge in your specialist area (e.g. Engineering) and awareness of workplace practices (Essential)
Skills and Competencies

Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills (Essential)
