Adoptions & Waste Pre Planning Engineer – Reading, Berkshire, RG1 8DB
Contract: Permanent
Salary: Starting salary from £41,000 per annum depending on skills and experience
We have a unique 12-month secondment position covering maternity as a Sewer Adoptions Engineer to oversee the adoption of new sewerage systems, sewer diversions, and pre-planning enquiries, with responsibility for providing technical assessments at every stage of the process.
What you’ll be doing as a Sewer Adoptions Engineer
Working as part of a collaborative team of engineers, you will take responsibility for managing developer applications, acting as the primary point of contact throughout the process. You will also ensure the protection of company assets during each stage of the adoption process.
- Take ownership of a designated geographical portfolio.
- Collaborate internally with teams, including Asset Planners, Operations, and Major Projects.
- Engage externally with Local Planning Authorities, Environment Agencies, and product manufacturers.
- Build strong relationships with major developers, global consultancies, small developers, and contractors.
- Work directly with customers to ensure successful adoption processes.
Location: Hybrid – Clearwater Court, Reading
Working hours: 36 per week – Monday to Friday between 8 am and 5 pm
What you should bring to the role
- The appointed Adoptions Engineer is envisaged to hold a Civil Engineering degree or equivalent and have previous experience in a similar position.
- Strong communication skills at all levels, both written and verbal, with competent IT skills; able to liaise and negotiate where applicable.
- With both Code for Adoptions and DMeX as our team’s key performance indicators, you will deliver the customer promise by exceeding expectations for statutory timescales, being an efficient and professional communicator, keeping developers well-informed throughout the process, and building strong relationships to improve customer satisfaction.
- Planning, estimating, and financial forecasting skills.
- Expertise in sewerage policy and legislation, fully up-to-date and knowledgeable on the most recent Code for Adoptions, including the Design and Construction Guidance, associated service level agreements, and WaterUK metrics, and responsible for meeting sewer vesting targets each year.
- You will receive full training on managing Pre-Planning and coaching on CCTV viewing, along with technical understanding across both Clean and Waste activities to support your future development.
