Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arose within Ashford and St Peter’s NHS Foundation Trust to co-lead the Maternity Triage team. The post holder will be responsible for the ongoing triage transformation project and quality improvement. The role will focus on building upon the Birmingham Symptom Specific Obstetric Triage (BSOTS) system and the continuous education of staff around this model of triage and continuing to find ways to improve the service.
Main duties of the job
- Act as triage clinical midwifery lead for each shift and supervise the midwives and other staff within the team ensuring that clinical practice is evidenced based and safe.
- Ensure Maternity Triage is staffed 24/7 with the recommended staffing template and escalate staffing and activity where required.
- Work cohesively with the MDT, Team leaders, Maternity Operational Coordinator (MOC) & LW Matron to escalate concerns in a timely manner and ensure appropriate clinical assessment is provided.
- Lead a team, team build, organise others in their actions and set priorities, objectives, and goals within their sphere of responsibility.

- Will be expected to exercise excellent judgement in dealing with both clinical and interpersonal challenges.
- To be accountable for stock and equipment in triage; ensuring repairs and replacements are carried out, keeping in line with safe standards on the ward.
- To be responsible for new and ongoing audit work related to Maternity Triage.
- Will be expected to performance manage both the activity and workforce that operate in triage.
- To make an effective contribution to reaching the Trust’s vision, strategic objectives and key work programmes.
- Ensure effective and safe day to day management of triage, supervising and managing all staff to maintain high standards of care.
- To ensure an effective learning environment for both students and qualified staff, identifying learning needs; to liaise with senior midwives with regard to training requirements and participation in the in-house training programme.
- Ensure all activity data for the area is collected and entered onto electronic systems to ensure that the Trust achieves appropriate funding for work undertake

- Registered and Practising Midwife with at least 3 years experience
