About the role
The Principal Project Engineer, Blending & Packaging is responsible for leading the engineering oversight and execution of two major packaging systems, one related to blending systems and one for composite can and tub packaging lines—at the Evansville, IN site. This role spans the full lifecycle of project delivery, including front-end engineering, design development, construction, commissioning, and validation. The engineer will serve as the technical lead and integrator across cross-functional teams and external partners to ensure successful implementation aligned with strategic production goals.
Your responsibilities
- Project Oversight: Lead and coordinate engineering activities for two major packaging proposals, ensuring alignment with long-term production and expansion strategies.
- Design & Integration: Oversee development of process and packaging line layouts, equipment specifications, and automation architecture. Ensure integration of mechanical, electrical, and control systems across vendors.
- Construction & Commissioning: Support and guide construction planning, installation, and commissioning phases. Ensure readiness for validation and production ramp-up.
- Validation & Compliance: Lead validation strategy and execution in compliance with FDA, GMP, and internal quality standards. Ensure documentation and traceability across all phases.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal teams (R&D, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Quality) and external engineering partners to ensure project milestones are met.
- Documentation & Change Control: Manage engineering documentation, change requests, and project records in accordance with document control systems.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process optimization, risk mitigation, and cost savings throughout the project lifecycle.
- Develop detailed project plans, including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
- Lead option analysis and packaging planning efforts. Work in partnership with engineering and construction partner firms to execute all phases of execution including commissioning.
- Conduct inspections and quality control checks to ensure the integrity and durability of packaging projects.
- Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with packaging projects.
- Prepare and maintain project documentation, including reports, drawings, and specifications.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices in packaging engineering.
The experience we're looking for
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Packaging, or Industrial Engineering or related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in packaging engineering in an FDA-regulated environment.
- Understanding of FDA, cGMP, ASTM, and ISO guidelines.
- Strong leadership, project management, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in engineering software and tools (e.g., Revit, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Procore, AutoCAD, Civil 3D).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Knowledge of building design and construction methods, materials, and regulations.
- Deep understanding of packaging engineering principles and practices.
- Works effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Ensures accuracy and thoroughness in all project-related activities.
- Flexible and able to adapt to changing project requirements and priorities.
- Manage stakeholders across the company gaining alignment and consensus around scope, costs, and schedule.
