It’s an exciting time for SEA as we expand our Canadian operations and team. We are currently looking for outstanding people to form the core of our growing team in Ottawa.
As our lead Mechanical Engineer, you will contribute to the design, development and support of highly engineered naval systems, working with technical, production and project teams in Canada and the UK. Work will include participating in the design of products, supporting the development of suppliers, designing specialist production and test equipment, mechanical design validation, troubleshooting production activities and supporting In Service Support teams.
What you’ll be doing
- Conduct assigned work packages, producing sound technical solutions that are well considered, defined, optimised and documented.
- Provide the technical interface between the mechanical engineering and product teams in the UK, and production and project teams in Canada.
- Work with the SEA Canada Supply Chain Manager ensure our suppliers have the systems, processes and capabilities to meet the design intent of our products.
- Work with suppliers, SEA product management teams and design authorities to create component and material specifications that can be delivered by a Canadian Supply Chain.
- Facilitate rapid problem resolution of parts quality issues working with suppliers and internal stakeholders.

 The experience and skills you need
Â
- Mechanical engineering degree, ideally at Masters level.
- Licensed Professional Engineer.
- The ability to create, review and modify engineering designs using 3D CAD tools.
- Experience in the development of technical documentation, including design specifications, test specifications and supporting documents for Manufacturing Data Packs.
- The ability to review and accept Manufacturing Data Packs prior to release to the Canadian production team.
- The ability to identify and propose Canadian equivalents to British material specifications and standards.
- Experience of SolidWorks, including simulation and FE analysis, and the MS Office suite of programmes.
- Experience in stress calculations to support design work, using a combination of first principles, design codes and finite element analysis will be a strong asset.
- Experience in manufacturing and production engineering, ideally in shipbuilding and defence environments would be an asset.
- A high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong problem-solving and clear/critical thinking skills.
- Deliver assigned tasks to high quality within a timely manner.
- The ability to work within and lead multi-functional teams to deliver common goals.
- Must have, or be able to secure, a Canadian security clearance.
