Who are we?

WRAP is a global environmental action NGO championing the shift towards a circular economy, fundamentally reshaping how we produce, consume, and manage resources. Our vision is a world transformed, in which Circular Living is commonplace. Where the systems that provide our everyday goods contribute to the world’s prosperity and sustainability instead of reducing it.

WRAP is driving Circular Living through four key areas: accelerating the circular economy, future-proofing food, preventing problem plastics and transforming textiles. We catalyse action from policy makers, businesses, NGOs and citizens to make it happen.

We have offices in the UK, USA and Australia, and live projects in over 30 countries.

Join us at WRAP and you’ll drive important change to make Circular Living the norm.

The role

As our Local Authority Technical Consultant in Northern Ireland, you will work as part of a small team. Your focus will be to support councils across Northern Ireland as they look to respond to the changing policy landscape and work towards the delivery of 70% recycling by 2030. As part of WRAP’s Local Authority Support team, you will also use your experience, knowledge, and skills to support local authorities across England and Wales.

You will be required to lead the delivery of an agreed programme of support to council waste and recycling teams; using your knowledge of waste management in Northern Ireland and your ability to build relationships with council officers, DAERA, and partners within the waste and resources sector. The programme will include the identification and delivery of bespoke technical and communications support into individual councils as well as the delivery of a broader range of guidance, campaigns, webinars, workshops and training.

Who are we looking for?

We’re looking for someone based in Northern Ireland with:

  • A good understanding of the range of collection services in operation across the UK and the relevant policy and legislative context for Northern Ireland;
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and delivering recycling and waste collection services including supporting or delivering the roll out of new services or implementing service changes;
  • A good understanding of council structures and decision-making processes as a result of either working for or with at least one UK council;
  • Proven ability to engage and influence key senior stakeholders and/or decision makers to agree and deliver change; and
  • Demonstrable experience of writing reports including for a non-technical audience.
