The Opportunity

At Sizewell B Power Station, we’re operating the only PWR in the UK, accredited to the ISO 14001 Environmental Management Standard. Sizewell B was the first nuclear power plant in Europe to achieve this standard. As an Engineer in our team, you’ll be focused on Radioactive Substances Regulation initially, but will have the opportunity to work flexibly with other team members and other responsibilities to ensure compliance with the highest standards of environment and radiological protection.

Pay, benefits and culture

We can offer a competitive salary from £45,641 – £95,993 with terms and conditions covered by the EDF Nuclear Generation Company Agreement. You’ll be appointed based on the parameters outlined in the Company Agreement. This is a full-time position, working 5 days per week on site. A fully extensive training programme will be available to the successful applicant.

What you’ll be doing

Your key accountabilities will include:

  • Oversight of arrangements for the assessment of radioactive discharges to the environment and the associated environmental monitoring programme
  • Contributing to the arrangements for the accumulation, storage and disposal of solid radioactive waste
  • Providing radiological protection advice in support of operations, maintenance and engineering
  • Providing technical advice and oversight of the site arrangements for the assessment of radiation doses, management of radiological monitoring instrumentation, radioactive material control and for radioactive material movement and transport
  • Supporting in development and delivery of training associated with radiological protection and radioactive substances regulations.

 

Following suitable training and development, you will be expected to take on the roles of Accredited Radioactive Waste Engineer &/or Accredited Health Physicist. You will be required to undertake a role on the emergency scheme, following a period of training.

 

Who you are

You’ll need to hold an HNC qualification, or Level 4 equivalent. Experience of applying Radioactive Substances Regulations would be preferable, as well as experience or appreciation of working in a highly regulated environment. Excellent organisational, communication and people management skills are important, as well as self-motivation in your role and a pro-active approach to dealing with technical issues. We’re also looking for you to have a positive outlook with the ability to drive improvements.

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least 3 of the last 5 years.
