Role responsibilities
Undertake a variety of geospatial tasks within Transport for Wales including map production, spatial analysis, data management and web application development to support project delivery across the organisation.
- Prepare user-focused maps, graphics and data visualisations, using specialist GIS software such as ArcGIS Pro or ArcGIS Enterprise, to present a range of datasets or analysis in a clear and logical way.
- Undertake spatial analysis and data manipulation, by combining datasets and developing analytical tools or workflows using software tools such as ArcGIS Pro and FME Form, to provide data insights and help analyse potential patterns and trends.
- Support the Head of GIS in maintaining the corporate GIS data store, by sourcing new data and updating existing datasets within our central Enterprise Geodatabases, to ensure TfW can provide an efficient GIS and mapping service.
- Assist with the administration and update of WebGIS applications, using ArcGIS Enterprise and VertiGIS Studio software, to ensure colleagues, stakeholders and clients have access to the most up-to-date and accurate data sources for decision-making.
Who we’re looking for
- Degree level qualification in GIS or a relevant numerate subject with a GIS focus such as Geography, Data Science, Environmental Science, Engineering.
- Experience of using Esri desktop GIS software (ArcGIS Pro or ArcMap) for map production and spatial analysis using geoprocessing tools.
- Good understanding of spatial data management and fundamental concepts of GIS.
- An ability to think creatively and logically to develop innovative and timely solutions to spatial analysis problems.
Welsh Language Skills
The ability to speak/write Welsh would make a great addition to your application, but it is not essential for this role.
