About The Law Society

The Law Society was founded in 1825 to be the independent professional body for solicitors in England and Wales. Our objectives are to promote the value of the profession, protect the justice system and support our members with a compelling offer.

Our Values

We are honest, open and recognise the expertise we each bring to the organisation. We celebrate and reward people who demonstrate our culture. We also hold each other to account when we see behaviour that does not support our values.

We value the diversity of our people and our members. We trust and support our team to do their job and to take responsibility for their work. We collaborate, share knowledge and support each other.

We work together to achieve success and do the best for our members. We are open to testing new ideas and challenging the way we do things.

We celebrate success and learn from mistakes.

Equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI)

Our EDI vision is to build an organisation where we can all actively thrive and that we can all feel proud of. We want all staff to feel valued, welcomed and embraced.

We’ll achieve this by recognising and celebrating difference and togetherness, and eliminating unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation. We’ll be guided by the key principles of EDI: fairness, equity and justice. These principles are integral to our identity as an organisation.

Advancing and embedding EDI will also help us continue to be an effective voice for our members, drive excellence in the profession, safeguard the rule of law, and promote access to justice. Having EDI at our core will aid us in leading the profession by example and fulfilling our fourth corporate objective of becoming an employer of choice for those who want to make a difference.

Our Employee Resource Groups

We want staff to feel valued, welcomed and embraced – including by recognising and celebrating our differences and togetherness.

Our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) work with the organisation to represent different groups, run events, offer support, raise awareness and build communities. They’re run by staff for staff.

Our current ERGs are:
REACH – our Race, Ethnicity And Cultural Heritage ERG.
OutLaws – our ERG for members of the LGBTQ+ community and allies.
Open Minds – our mental health ERG.

We will be an employer of choice for people who want to make a difference

As we move towards our 200th anniversary, we want to celebrate our heritage but also look forward to being an organisation that attracts and retains diverse and talented people.

Our members uphold the rule of law and our justice system, both key principles underpinning the values of our society. We know our team already feels passionately that this work makes a difference and are proud of their role and the part they play. This is a sound platform to build on and will enable us to enhance member value through organisational efficiencies, growth and developing our people.

We offer a generous flexible benefits package, a friendly working environment and the opportunity to develop your career within a professional organisation.

You can take an additional 3% of annual basic salary (non-consolidated, non-pensionable) as income, paid monthly, or use it to buy additional benefits.
