The A Side: A Day in The Life

Global Classics and Jazz (GCJ) is a division within Universal Music Group (UMG) focusing on a diverse range of music throughout the company, from classical to jazz and beyond (including instrumental, electronic, folk, soul, indie and soundtracks). As an eCommerce Manager you will work in a central team at the heart of the GCJ division with responsibility for our international e-Commerce business as a key channel to connect artists and fans 

 

This is a newly created role that will be pivotal in helping to manage a portfolio of centrally co-managed and locally managed evergreen ecommerce stores across multiple territories and labels. You will be responsible for driving revenues from music and merchandise products and ensuring we always offer the best possible customer experience to our fans.  

 

This eCommerce Manager will collaborate closely with our A&R, marketing and ecommerce teams in markets, at labels/repertoire owners, and with the central GCJ and commerce team. Bringing solid Shopify and eCommerce experience, this role will suit a results-driven creative problem-solver with the ability to work on multiple projects, and a passion for great eCommerce retailing.  

 

 

The B Side: Skills & Experience  

 

 

Be Strategic  

 

  • Identify and execute opportunities for ecommerce revenue delivery and growth for key genre segments and artists across the business. 

  • Working closely with labels and markets, you will use your music eCommerce, commercial and merchandising experience to optimise and internationalise D2C sales activities. 

  • Build relationships with label and artist management and report sales trends and store performance, manage escalations, and identify campaign pitfalls and sharing learnings to inform future campaigns.  

  • Analyse site analytics and reporting to understand and improve site engagement to increase customer acquisition. 

 

Be Operational  

 

  • Manage the eCommerce release schedule with the label/RO contacts to identify artist, release and product opportunities to ensure we have a suitable product range for superfans and customers. 

  • Store management of a portfolio of centrally co-managed stores, including theming and UX, campaigning, merchandising and category management in line with ecommerce best practice. 

  • Work with local ecommerce and label marketing and production teams on their locally-managed stores to drive synergies and optimise results internationally. 

  • Work with ecommerce operations and customer service to resolve strategic issues on supply chain, constantly measure the customer feedback loop to ensure customer happiness and loyalty 

  • Manage relationships with our key partners in the ecommerce space, notably the Labels, brand owners, tech team and finance teams, logistics team, procurement and merchandise companies, artist managers and ticket agencies. 

 

Be Administrative  

 

  • Work with the label/RO and territories in delivering sales and profitability reporting. 

  • Implementation & ongoing management of SEO and meta-tagging across stores.  

 

Person Specification 

 

Necessary  

 

  • ecommerce experience in managing a portfolio of international ecommerce stores. 

  • A strong understanding of core ecommerce best practice with clear results delivering of great customer experience on stores 

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a proven focus on communication, collaboration and cooperation. 

  • Experience of working in cross-functional teams to drive projects to completion with an ability to react quickly and calmly to changing artist & label needs and deadlines 

  • Strong affinity for artists and their music. 

  • A commercial & analytical approach to business, adept at working and achieving store revenue targets. 

  • Shopify experience and an understanding of core Shopify apps 

 

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills 

  • An understanding of site performance and user behaviour to enable business decision-making 

  • Technical platform knowledge of Business Manager [Meta], Google [GA, GMC, Ads & YouTube], TikTok & Spotify 

  • Understanding of paid marketing including paid social, programmatic & PPC 

  • Understanding of SEO & accessibility best practices 

 

Desirable 

 

  • PM tools – Preferably Monday.com 

  • Knowledge of Google Analytics and ecommerce reporting tools 

  • Ability to multi-task, problem solve, and execute tasks with accuracy in a high-pressure, fast-paced agile environment
