Deputy Head of Stage

We are recruiting for the position of Deputy Head of Stage for the Manchester ATG Entertainment venues, to be based at Manchester Opera House. You will be part of the senior technical team liaising with visiting productions regarding their staffing and any other requirements during their stay. Under the Head of Stage, you will lead on the maintenance of the venue’s stage machinery, flying system and any equipment within the department, you will assist the full-time team in managing a pool of casual technicians, and support the Technical Manager in maintaining a positive safety culture. As well as technical ability you will also need great people skills and have the ability to motivate and manage a team.

The Palace Theatre & Opera House are stunning, large-scale historic theatres located in the heart of Manchester city centre. We host work from leading UK and international producers, enabling the most spectacular West End and Broadway shows to visit the North West alongside drama, classical and contemporary dance, live music, comedy and one-night specials. The theatres host around 650 performances each year, with longer runs of major musicals mixed with week-long tours and one-night shows. We work increasingly in partnership with producers to open new shows or launch national tours.

The Opera House is an unmissable feature of Manchester’s central Quay Street in the elegant Spinningfields quarter, the city’s thriving business district where luxury fashion brands, restaurants and bars nestle in amongst an array of cultural and entertainment venues. The Grade II listed Opera House, designed in the Classical style with a 15-bay façade, columns and sculptured stone relief, has a large capacity but an intimate auditorium making it perfect not only for smaller musicals but also dance, drama, comedy and pantomime. The Opera House has hosted a variety of world premieres before they transfer to the west end – shows include: Ghost, Back To The Future, & Juliet, Mrs Doubtfire, A Knight’s Tale and many more. The Manchester Palace is one of the most successful theatres in the country. A Grade II listed building, originally built as the “Palace of Varieties”, the theatre was extensively remodelled in the early 1900s by the legendary Frank Matcham. In the 1970s, the theatre underwent a major refurbishment, restoring the auditorium and front of house facilities to their Edwardian splendour and improving backstage facilities. With its large, well-equipped stage and nearly two thousand seats, the theatre is a must-visit venue for major West End shows such as Phantom of the Opera, Mamma Mia, Les Misérables, The Lion King, Mary Poppins, Wicked and Hamilton.
