Ofcom
Let’s Take on the Issues that Really Matter
Who are we
As the UK’s communications regulator, we’re delivering vital work that helps keep the UK connected and shapes the future of how we’ll stay connected with each other.
Our work covers everything from phones and broadband, through to TV, radio, the postal service, and wireless devices. We’re also taking on the challenge of making the online world a safer place. And we need people of all backgrounds, skill sets, and experiences to help us achieve our goal of making communications work for everyone.
Working at Ofcom
The work we do at Ofcom is exciting, and like the industries we regulate, it’s fast-moving and constantly changing. As the communications landscape continues to evolve, so do we.
We’re looking for new people who can bring fresh ideas and different perspectives. It’s the only way we can continue to deliver on our core purpose: to make communications work for everyone.
We have five core values that sit at the heart of everything we do. Our values shape how we treat one another, how we work together, how we relate to our stakeholders, and how we judge performance.
Excellence – As a regulator, it’s important that we hold ourselves to the same high standards that we set everyone else. We want our people to feel proud of the work they do – because it makes an impact.
Collaboration – We all share one goal at Ofcom – regardless of what department you work in or the role that you do. Our people care about the same things and the way we work reflects this. We can achieve more together than we can alone.
Agility – As the communications landscape continues to evolve and grow, our organisation will shift with it. We work with agility and flexibility – staying ahead of the curve when it comes to new technology and adapting to new innovations and changes in our sectors.
Empowerment – We believe everyone should feel confident and comfortable enough to be their true selves in the workplace. We empower our people to stay curious, share ideas, do work that inspires them, and to have a voice on the issues they care about.
Respect – Everyone’s skills, contributions, and ideas are valued and respected at Ofcom. Everyone has a role to play and something to contribute. We appreciate everyone’s input equally, regardless of their background or experience.
Diversity and inclusion are essential to the way we operate, both as an employer and as the UK’s communications regulator. Our strategy outlines our priorities, including targets relating to our workforce and an outline of our vision as an organisation.
Diversity & Inclusion
We publish an annual diversity report which is available on our main website.
Here are our diversity targets, which we aim to reach by 2026:
- Senior ethnicity: 16% of our senior leaders from minority ethnic backgrounds.
- Senior gender balance: An equal gender balance at senior levels.
- Disability: 15% of our colleagues are disabled.
- Boards and committees: An approximately equal gender balance and a level comparable with the relevant populations on disability (15%) and ethnicity (10%).
In addition to these targets, we’re focused on broadening our socioeconomic and class diversity, as well as increasing our regional diversity, with more colleagues based outside London. These are particularly important areas to help make sure our regulatory work is informed by people with a broad range of experiences, backgrounds and perspectives.
