About the Service/Department
The purpose of this role is to effectively deliver an older person’s day service and the running of a community centre. This will include meaningful activities and creating valuable experiences, as well as providing healthy meals in a safe and supportive environment.

About the role

The Team Manager will have overall responsibility for the delivery of the service and its programme of activities for users of the centre, including H & S and building management. You will manage and support the staff, with direct responsibility for the Service Coordinator as well as overseeing the volunteers and any social work student placements. This role will lead on external relationships with key stakeholders including all communication and promotion of the service. Finally, this role will also be responsible for all monitoring and recording across the service and ensuring that the service meets its contractual and organisational targets. They will be required to understand safeguarding issues and ability to address them appropriately. Other responsibilities include:

Management of people

  • Manage and support the Lewisham Older People’s Coordinator in delivering to their role profile and in effectively managing their staff.
  • Manage and support Social Work Students to deliver their role
  • Ensure that all staff in the service undertake relevant training and support the learning and development of staff through regular updates, bite sized training sessions and workshops.
  • To work closely with external activities providers to ensure that activities are planned and delivered when due.

Management of Service delivery

  • To oversee delivery of all elements across the Lewisham Older People’s Day Service & Day Centre including support to service users and building management.
  • To lead on the development of the centre and ensure maximum income from centre usage/bookings.
  • Support the Co-ordinator to co-produce a programme of activities. To ensure that these activities meet the needs of service users and respond to the cultural requirements.
  • To ensure the delivery of 25 places of actual support per day – (Monday to Friday) To oversee the use of the building by other community groups and local residents including managing bookings, payments and risk assessments.
  • To identify the relevant resources for supporting this work including the roles of theCentre staffand volunteers.
  • To work with the Service Co-ordinator on local fundraising to maximise unrestricted income and enhance the services delivered by the centre.
  • To establish and embed a Quality and Monitoring procedure with the London Borough of Lewisham around contractual KPIs.

Health and Safety management

  • Responsibility for all aspects of H & S across the service; implemented, monitored and reviewed by staff and that the centre is a safe environment for employees, service users and visitors.
  • Support the Co-ordinator and support workers in co-producing individual health passports for each service user which take into account all care and support needs.
  • Ensure that a clear emergency protocol is established and understood by all staff, for each service user
