Salary: Up to £55,000 depending on experience
Location: New Mills (Global HQ), Wotton-under-Edge, GL12 8JR
Hybrid working: 3 days in the office, 2 days from home (4.5 day working week, half day Fridays)

In our AM Division, we design, and manufacture AM turn-key solutions based on a process called metal powder bed fusion (or laser melting). Our products are used by customers in their cutting-edge engineering projects, in market sectors ranging from automotive to aerospace.
 

We’re looking for a Senior FPGA Design Engineer to participate in the full development life cycle for firmware development for the AM 3D printer. Our mission is to support the continuous evolution and innovation of the AM Machine, by delivering high value design solutions, against high performance and reliability constraints. In this role, you’ll contribute to current and future generations of AM firmware and collaborate in cross-discipline engineering, support R&D projects, mentor junior teammates, and develop your career with a background of the growing body of knowledge that is AM.
 

As a business, we are continuously involved with R&D for new products so, from time to time, there will be a need to attend site to carry out certain tasks and we’re likely to ask you to attend more often during key phases of projects.
 

About you

  • Qualified to degree level in Electronics Engineering, Firmware Engineering, or similar.

  • Passionate for developing firmware solutions and applying the best practices into embedded deliverables.

  • Demonstrable expertise in VHDL coding, simulation and verification and live debugging techniques.

  • Knowledge of tools such as Aldec, Quartus, GIT and Atlassian suite.

  • Experienced development of PCIe and Ethernet communications or similar high-speed communications on FPGA.

  • Experienced in using Zuken or other ECAD system tools to capture the firmware requirements and specifications, and to assist in debugging development boards.

  • Knowledge ARM-Cortex microcontrollers, C/C++, assembly language or other embedded software languages.
     

About the role

  • You will research and develop new firmware for Intel (Altera) FPGA’s, covering a comprehensive range of devices from motors to encoders and communication stacks such as PCIe and Ethernet.

  • Influence firmware practices to improve quality as part of fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

  • Support the introduction of infield upgradability of FPGA’s

  • Collaborate with our multi-disciplinary teams to engineer user centred designs for the product.

  • Guiding junior engineers through complex technical challenges and supporting their professional development.
     

Person Specification

As a Senior FPGA Engineer here at Renishaw, you’ll strive towards continuous improvement to enhance processes and practices and you’ll enjoy collaborating within a multi-disciplinary team. You will have an appetite for learning on the job, and a ferocious can-do attitude enabling you to solve complex engineering problems, where you will create innovative solutions to tackle intricate challenges. You’ll be eager to learn, apply new knowledge to your everyday with a system-based thinking approach. You’ll also have an eye for detail, paying particular attention to the quality of work you produce.
