The Role:

We are seeking to recruit 2 experienced nurses to take the lead in supporting the development and role out of our physical health strategy for the people we support in our social care services. This is an exciting opportunity to lead on initiatives to reduce health inequalities whilst enhancing and supporting our service users in optimising their health and wellbeing.

The successful candidates will be Learning Disability nurses (RNLD) with excellent physical health care knowledge / experience or Registered General Nurses (RGN) with excellent knowledge and experience in learning disabilities and autism. The successful candidates will be home based with flexibility to travel to sites as needed (on average 1 – 2 days per week with occasional overnight stays).

The post holder will support in:

  • The development and implementation of our physical healthcare strategy in social care for people with learning disabilities and / or autism
  • Ensuring that service users have equitable access to primary and secondary health services
  • Development of policies and procedures
  • Providing physical health care advice and supporting with development of health related care and support plans (where required)
  • Facilitating the development of competence in others
  • We are looking for someone:
  • Who is passionate about enhancing the wellbeing of people with learning disabilities and / or autism
  • Has experience of supporting people with behaviours which may at times be deemed challenging
  • Has good knowledge of national drivers in the physical health care of people with learning disabilities
  • With good communication and teaching skills are essential
  • Is able to work autonomously as well as part of a team
  • Is able to work flexibly and travel up to 2 days per week where required to undertake site visits

Education and Qualifications required:

  • Registered Learning Disability or General Nurse /Current NMC registration
  • Degree or equivalent level of education or experience
  • Evidence of current professional development.
  • MIP, FLIP, ENB 998 Teaching & Assessing in Clinical Practice or City & Guilds 730 Teaching in Adult Education.
