Head of Sales 

Monday – Friday (5/7) 

£50000 (DOE) 

A hands-on and proactive senior sales and marketing position based at the Royal Armouries in Leeds responsible for the performance of the conference and events sales team and the growth of C&E business.

The royal armouries and new dock hall is the largest dedicated conference, events and exhibition space in Leeds.

Our venue offers world-class facilities for high-profile conferences, conventions, exhibitions, awards dinners and corporate events for up to 2,500 delegates, hosting more than 380 national and international events every year.

The role will require thorough working knowledge of all key market segments and key clients within these, ensuring conversion rates are optimized and financial targets achieved. An important part of the role will be to develop beneficial and productive relationships with new C&E clients, especially those from venue agencies, live communication agencies and associations. As such the person fulfilling this role will have strong client relationships within the UK and local C&E market.

The Head of Sales will be responsible for producing, delivering and managing sales and marketing strategies to achieve venue sales, KPIs, SLAs whilst supporting profitability targets.

Responsibilities Include: 

  •  Producing, managing, and delivering the overall C&E sales and marketing strategy for the venue
  • Taking responsibility for the achievement of full year sales budget
  • Identifying opportunities for C&E sales growth and working collaboratively with the team to implement
  • Proactive sales activities to secure new business and retain existing customer base, including targeted telesales calls and appointments/showrounds
  • Being fully aware of sales activity and promotions of competitors and always taking a proactive approach to doing things differently to be ahead of the competition
  • Expanding business from existing customers with the support of robust account plans
  • Understanding, researching and implementing plans to deliver new business from new market segments
  • Working with Key Account Directors and deliver an effective strategy to meet agreed targets
  • Managing participation and representation of the venue at relevant exhibitions and trade shows
  • Leading, motivating and inspiring the C&E sales team to achieve KPI targets
  • Encouraging a performance-oriented sales culture throughout the C&E sales team with 1:1s and up to date training and development plans in place
  • Ensuring team performance and conversion is closely monitored and venue performance standards are achieved, including mystery shopper benchmarks are exceeded
  • Managing all C&E brand and marketing activities including website content and usability
  • Ensuring brand standards are maintained by clients, internal customers and suppliers alike
  • Implementing sales and marketing processes to enhance quality, consistency and efficiency
  • Providing accurate sales reports, robust forecasts and leading the C&E budget process
  • Positive management of venue relationship with Lime Venue Portfolio and other industry contacts
  • Participating in central sales campaigns and initiatives
  • Demonstrating a “can do” attitude

Our Ideal Head of Sales 

  • Will have extensive sales experience within the UK conference and events industry
  • Will be experienced in achieving KPI’s, producing sales plans and targets, and developing business strategy to achieve growth expectations
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a proactive sales role, preferably within a high-profile Conference & Events venue, with a proven track record of achieving sales targets
  • Thorough working knowledge of all key market segments and key clients within each segment
  • Experience of setting budgets and monitoring performance
  • Experienced in producing quality proposals and have great attention to detail
  • Will be experienced in performance managing teams to achieve KPIs, producing sales plans and targets, and developing business strategy to achieve growth expectations
  • Experienced in producing quality proposals and have great attention to detail
  • Fully knowledgeable and accomplished in venue showrounds and customer appointments
  • Must show initiative, drive and ambition to deliver and be a confident decision maker
  • Self-motivated and ability to maintain focus in the achievement of sales targets
  • Good understanding of database management and be competent in Microsoft 365
  • Have excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Confident in making proactive and rebook telesales calls
