Overview
You will make a difference by playing a crucial role in managing flood risk across South Gloucestershire, working with partners to ensure that we undertake our flood risk management responsibilities as required under the Flood & Water Management Act (2010).
With projected increases in rainfall, the intensity of events and rising sea levels due to the impact of a changing climate, this role is of critical importance and working alongside the Climate and Nature Emergency team, you will deliver measures to increase the resilience of South Gloucestershire to these climate impacts.
What will you be doing?
- In the role you will be reviewing and advising on the design and proposals for Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) for major development sites to ensure new developments comply with both local and national standards. With the expected implementation of Schedule 3 of the Flood & Water Management Act (2010) in 2024, you will be assisting in its transition to becoming the SuDS Approval Body (SAB).
- It will be your responsibility to support the team, share expertise and assist colleagues with the delivery of actions identified in the Council’s adopted Local Flood Risk Management Strategy.
- You will issue Ordinary Watercourse Consents and take the lead on enforcement action against unconsented land drainage works.
- Undertaking flood investigations, you will establish the causes of flooding and the determination of potential mitigation to reduce the risk of flooding happening again. You will also assist on occasions with the inspection of new builds, existing drainage and SuDS assets.
- It is key that you develop and maintaining good relationships with key stakeholders including the Environment Agency, Internal Drainage Board, water companies, neighbouring LLFAs, Councillors and our residents to manage flood risk.
- The role offers flexible working arrangements, with working from home and the office in a hybrid environment being a key part of the role.
