We’re looking for a DSEAR Technical Manager to join our Process Safety team and become a key technical specialist within Anglian Water. This is a rare opportunity to influence how hazardous area compliance is managed across one of the UK’s largest water utilities, contributing directly to the safety of our people, assets, and the environment.

What You’ll Be Doing

Reporting to the DSEAR Manager, you’ll lead the planning, oversight, and quality assurance of electrical and mechanical asset inspections under the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations (DSEAR). You’ll work closely with internal engineers and external contractors to deliver compliant, risk-managed solutions.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing a team of DSEAR Engineers and contractors to deliver asset inspections and remedial works.
  • Auditing and reviewing risk assessments and inspection reports to ensure legal compliance.
  • Supporting the wider business with technical advice, mentoring, and competency assessments.
  • Leading on DSEAR-related training and development strategies.
  • Overseeing the specification and acceptance of EX-rated electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Supporting the delivery of projects from design to execution, ensuring full compliance with CDM and safety legislation.
  • Deputising for the DSEAR Manager and representing Anglian Water in industry forums and regulatory engagements.

About You

You’re a recognised Subject Matter Expert in hazardous area engineering, with a deep understanding of electrical and mechanical safety. You’re comfortable interpreting engineering drawings, applying relevant British and international standards, and guiding others in best practice.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • Strong experience in hazardous area compliance (DSEAR/ATEX).
  • Knowledge of BS EN 60079 standards and principles of explosion protection.
  • A track record of leading and managing specialist teams.
  • Experience in coaching, mentoring, and developing technical teams.
  • Practical experience in auditing, quality assurance, and competency frameworks.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills across multiple disciplines.
  • Strong programme management and budget oversight experience.

Why Join Us?

At Anglian Water, we put safety and sustainability at the heart of everything we do. You’ll be joining a business that’s known for innovation, integrity, and impact. As a Subject Matter Expert, you’ll have a genuine opportunity to influence how we safeguard the future of water.

You’ll benefit from:

  • Personal private health care
  • Life cover – 8x annual salary
  • 26 days holiday plus bank holidays (with flexibility for religious holidays)
  • Flexible working opportunities
  • Competitive pension scheme – we double-match your contributions up to 6%
  • Bonus scheme and a wide range of lifestyle benefits
  • Ongoing training and career development in a values-led organisation
