We have a fantastic opportunity for a Design Manager to join our team within Countryside Partnerships West, at our Bristol office. As our Design Manager you will be responsible for supporting the generation of profitable tenders for authorisation and submission, to maximise the order pipeline and its conversion into market share, revenue, and operating profit within the business unit. You will assist managing the process of designing the solution(s) for the project to meet or exceed customers’ requirements. To assist identify contractual, financial, technical, and operational risks and to find opportunities for value engineering, to minimise risk and maximise gross profit on contracts. To support the fulfilment of the pipeline of contracts safely, on time, and to the required quality while maximising gross profit and customers’ satisfaction.

More about the Design Manager role…

  • To implement and comply with Vistry Partnerships SHE policy and procedures, all legal requirements, and best practice within the business unit and areas.
  • Comply with and all current Vistry BMS procedures
  • To allocate resources within delegated authorities
  • To support the achievement of the annual financial budget (operating profit) for the business unit
  • To manage the process of design solutions
  • To lead, manage and motivate any internal staff and external consultants on projects to establish their full commercial contribution to the organisation.
  • To help determine the required design management resources, capability and competency of staff for the project(s).
  • To support the winning of contracts while minimising risk and maximising gross profit in particular in the management of the design process
  • To implement Vistry Partnerships policies, procedures and values
  • Manage and collate information Planning, Building Control, BREEAM, CODE Building for life, HQI, NHBC and SBD information / requirements.
  • To select, propose & appoint external design consultants
  • To support the process of assessing, preparing (including post-tender activities), validating, adjudication and the final submission of tenders on time and to the required quality
  • To manage the process of designing solution(s), in order to meet or exceed the customers’ requirements
  • To support negotiations with the customer for the design solution adopted at the end of the bidding process
  • To support the commercial relationships with customers, consultants, contractors and subcontractors during the project life cycle.
  • To assess, control and mitigate risks and implement Vistry Partnerships risk policy
  • To support the project teams to fulfil contracts safely, on time, and to the required quality while minimising costs. In particular:
  • to ensure the solution design is in line with the budget, ER’s and design programme
  • to conduct design reviews (compliance/buildability etc)
  • to support value engineering
