Hinkley Point ‘C’ (HPC) is a vital part of the UK’s future energy strategy. As the first of the UK’s next generation of nuclear power stations, and currently the largest infrastructure project in Europe, HPC is both of high profile and high complexity.
Opportunity…
We are recruiting for a Construction Superintendent, who will be responsible for Leading and / or supporting the drafting of the Surveillance Programme (in their scope of responsibilities and discipline) and they will be responsible for the “Delivery” of quality compliance within the designated section of the Works. The responsibility extends to all Construction and Surveillance related activities including logistics planning and implementation in collaboration with the site wide logistics team, Health and Safety, Surveillance, reporting internally, planning, monitoring and close out of obligations and conditions.
You will report to the NEC Supervisor for day-to-day guidance and to the Programme Client team via the Construction Delivery Team. Their team will input into site wide management issues and a high level of interaction and coordination with other operational members of the site wide team will be required. In addition to reporting and liaising accountabilities.
As the Mechanical Construction Superintendent, you will manage a team of Field Engineers (deemed as Practitioner) to take responsibility for Surveillance Activities in accordance with a Surveillance Programme on HPC Construction Site.

What you’ll be doing…
As the Construction Superintendent, you will:
• Take Responsibility and / or Support others regarding the drafting of Surveillance
Programme, and other Surveillance documents (such as Surveillance Guidelines) if required.
• Check the Works are constructed in accordance with the contract and notifying the Senior
Construction Delivery Manager and NEC Supervisor of defects before completion.
• Submit details to the NEC Supervisor so that a Quality Related Amending Document
can be issued.
• Advise the Client’s delivery team on quality, safety, environmental, resource and
progress issues.
• Proactively communicate with other site teams and to maintain good communication links,
and ensure activity is well and timely reported.
• Contribute information on specific areas to weekly and monthly reports, as well as issuing
and maintaining performance and KPI indicators.
• Support team instructions to take temporary measures to mitigate and keep works safe and
within Quality standards. Follow up by taking appropriate and proportionate action
(e.g. issue communications, call meetings) to avoid the halt of works.
• Develop the team with a good perspective of current and future site activities.
• Ensure that the tasks are developed to programme and quality in accordance with the company’s
requirement for health, safety and environment.
• Provide information to assist in the management of strategic planning of the site set up,
construction sequencing, recovery plans and resource allocation.
• Develop and maintain an understanding of the construction activities and their adherence to
the schedule.
• Review Contractor performance against the authorised ITP and associated Work Information
• Ability to make autonomous decisions and operate with minimal supervision.
Who you are…
• A minimum of HND (Higher National Diploma) in Mechanical Engineering or
Construction Management qualification or equivalent vocational training and
experience.
• Ability to work within a high performing team that continuously exceeds
expectations and objectives
• Experience in the Nuclear Industry with Strong Nuclear Safety Culture
• Proven experience of writing diaries both informative, concise and with relevance
to the particular form of contract.
• Experience in motivating and energising staff by building a climate of trust and
understanding and actively seeking alternative views and opinions.
• Extensive previous working experience in the delivery of large complex projects
within installation and erection of large Mechanical or Electrical projects.
• General understanding of design obligations under CDM Regulations – along with an
understanding of the document and drawing approvals processes.
• Strong communication skills in English required, knowledge of French can be an
advantage, with excellent organisation and delegation skills. With good attention
to detail.
• Broad knowledge and wide understanding of the materials, trades methods and legal
requirements
• Broad knowledge of Quality Assurance Requirements (such as ISO9001)
• Able to establish appropriate working relationships with the contractors.
Your background may include some of the following:
• Experience in the installation / erection of large Mechanical Equipment
(Turning Equipment as well as Static Equipment)
• Proven track record of working within a large construction team.
• Experience in the use of electronic handheld devices to capture information.
